State Committee Opportunities to Serve

Do you have a sister in your chapter who would make a good P.E.O. state officer?  Please give this question your most serious consideration.  Service on the State Board is extremely rewarding and will have life-long impact on her.  The friendships she forms will last a lifetime.

After serving as a chapter president, any sister is eligible for such service.  Many sisters have the time and talents which would enhance the Sisterhood at the state level.  When serving at the state level there are more rewards than there are obligations!  Just ask any Past State President! Imagine the opportunity to visit Mt. Pleasant Iowa, Cottey College in Nevada, MO, and our executive offices in Des Moines.

In addition to her commitment to serve five* years on the State Board, your nominee must have been a P.E.O. for at least five years and an Alabama P.E.O. for a minimum of two years.  The following are the computer capacity requirements prescribed by International Chapter which she must possess:

  • Computer:  desktop or laptop

    • Single Pentium-Class Processor 500MHz or higher

    • System Memory (RAM) 256mb or higher

    • CD/DCD Reader/Writer

  • Operating System

    • Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP (Home or Professional Edition)

  • Internet Connection and Web Browser

    • DSL or Cable high-speed connection

    • Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer

  • Software

    • Microsoft Word

    • Microsoft Excel

    • Adobe

  • Printer:  capable of printing at least 10 pages per minute

  • Uninterrupted Power Source (UPS) also known as a battery backup

Additionally, it will be very helpful if she has an in-home copy machine.

In October, each chapter will receive a letter and packet of information from the Chairman of the State Nominating Committee.  After reading this new correspondence during the chapter meeting, the chapter president should encourage the chapter nominating committee to consider nominating a sister who meets the above qualifications and has the time and personal commitment to our Sisterhood to dedicate herself to service.  After obtaining her approval, the completed forms and a supporting letter from the chapter should be sent to the chairman of the State Nominating Committee.

If your chapter sister is selected by the State Nominating Committee, she'll need the love and support of her chapter sisters and the chapter will have the joyous experience of watching her grow in P.E.O. and P.E.O. grow in her.  Believe me, the rewards are enormous!

*The nominee should accept with the idea of remaining on the board the entire five years, however with the knowledge that she will be asked to allow her name to be placed in nomination each year.  It is understandable that circumstances change, and she may decline to serve in the next office if necessary.

If you are interested in obtaining an application please contact Shirley Paramore, 2018-19 State Nominating Committee Chair, at 205-837-3644 or shirleygp@bellsouth.net.
